Is knockdown texture removal messier than popcorn?

Can you just skim over my existing texture?
Sometimes. If the texture is bonded well and not too deep, a skim coat can bury it. Deep or peeling texture needs to come off first so the new finish does not crack.
Will the new ceiling match my walls?
